Data Integration Vendors
Pervasive, Informatica, Talend and Jitterbit are examples of ETL based data integration solutions
Axway, Inovis and Extol are examples of B2Bi based data integration solutions that provide good support for industry standards such as EDI and AS2.
Boomi is an example of purely cloud based IaaS solution.
Adeptia is also provider of ETL based data integration, b2b based data integration, cloud based integration etc.
Cast Iron Systems is an example of an integration appliance. This approach has been recognized to have some significant disadvantages in that it leads to a more expensive solution, less flexibility, more maintenance, hardware obsolescence and difficulty in proper evaluation before purchase.
Progress Sonic and Fiorano are examples of message queue based integration solutions.
These vendors offer good, proven solutions that work well if they are a good fit for the specific needs of the customer. Early adopters of these solutions are typically independent software vendors (ISVs), systems integrators (SIs) or internal IT staff who view these solutions to be attractive alternatives to writing custom code.
Although there are a lot of integration solutions in the market, some say too many, Adeptia believes that no other product really addresses the needs of the majority of the customers. There exists an “Integration Tool Dilemma” in the minds of customers who are wary of the choice of either investing in a niche data integration product that just does one thing well or over-investing in a big enterprise-wide integration solution. Customers want to start small to solve an immediate problem but want to know that they have the tool that can scale to meet other needs in the future. Adeptia provides exactly that.

Enterprise Integration Vendors
IBM, TIBCO, WebMethods (Software AG) are examples of enterprise integration solutions that have extensive background and experience in the integration market with their ability to scale performance and functionality in complex, heterogeneous environments. These products provide comprehensive features and functionality and so require extensive training to use effectively.
Other solutions in this category are SeeBeyond (acquired by Sun Microsystems and now Oracle), SAP and Vitria Technology. Most of these products started out as Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) solutions, grew into Integration Suites and now are moving into the Integration-Centric Business Process Management (BPM) space.
Sterling Commerce Gentran Integration Suite and GXS are other products that fall in this category although they started off as a Business to Business (B2B) integration products focused on supply chain and partner integration and still remain best suited for those situations.
Considering the cost and the effort required in implementing these solutions, they are typically best suited for large, complex, enterprise-wide process and application integration scenarios in Fortune 1000 organizations.
